Music in the new era of auto-tune and gimmicks has me thinking where can music go next? Really I can’t see how it can go down, but if people really open their ears and eye’s relevant artist will once again rise above the untalented few with great faces and costumes. I find myself more and more going “underground” to find music I can actually bare to listen to. I’m sick of the vocal changes…what happened to when singing mattered? We have artist like Ke$ha getting a great push from her label and she doesn’t even sing. She’s crazy; she’s fun, but talented; May need to reevaluate the definition of that word. Decades of music have gone by and I miss the days when vocalist had vocals. There are still great artist that are not in the spotlight because they aren’t self proclaimed weirdoes like Lady Gaga. I guess anyone would get attention if they played a piano while it’s on fire. The only reason I think she has “success” is because there is nothing else to look at.
There are a few artists I really hope take the top in 2010. I have high hopes that talent will once again matter in the future.
Trey Songz
Melanie Fiona
JoJo
Christina Aguilera
Justin Timberlake
Keke Palmer
Monica
…these are just a few on my great list of people that can still sang without a computer to help them out. Please let the talented save music.
Often industry types LOVE to say that the reason the consumer is no longer buying albums is because of the internet. I really wish they would wake up and see that no one purchases albums because the music is not good quality. They think if they come up with a dance or a “fresh” line people will automatically run to FYE or Best Buy and pick it up. Really? Get over yourself…attention producers, labels, and artist! The Consumer will buy your album if it’s worth buying. Why would I go out and buy a full album when I only like 1 track?
PLEASE STOP! Do not try to sell me an outfit in a music video. I think we know who is guilty of this crime. All I have to say is eh eh eh….
I want MUSIC…real MUSIC. You know the stuff an artist writes? They usually pour their hearts out in the bedroom…or dance floor.
This article is not to bash this is to help you wake up. Sadly enough music has suffered, but performance has suffered just the same. I grew up in an era where putting on an original show was a must have. Now in 2010 we have artist that think being crazy is ENOUGH. Indeed it truly is ENOUGH. I want a show with sound, not a freakshow. We want entertainment! You remember when Britney Spears came out and there was instant shock that was relevant to the moment? Now we have “artist” that try way to hard to make a memory on stage and just end up insulting 90% of the audience. Here’s an idea…if your talented enough you won’t have to try so hard.
In 2010 I hope people will purchase tickets to concerts that have more then costumes, and I hope they purchase albums that are not the norm. Labels are there to create a storm of an artist that can make them money RIGHT NOW. An example of this would be Justin Bieber…the kid is a trending topic on twitter everyday! Let’s get real people…he’s cute but is he really that talented? I tend to disagree with the 12 year old down the street.
In the future think before you call an artist epic or history making. Artist that can be dubbed genius have been around for years and WORKED for it. Don’t be so quick to hand off the baton of greatness. Let it be known in the last year the only album I went to the store to buy was Trey Songz ‘Ready’. It was worth my 15 dollars.
Music is 2010? Goodluck.
